Grand Lake Montessori was founded in 1978 as an independent, coeducational Montessori day school. Formerly known as Casa dei Bambini (or House of Children - in Italian) it was named after the first Montessori school established in Rome in 1906. The school has grown from 24 students to over 160, educating children 18 months through Kindergarten.
Now known as Grand Lake Montessori (GLM), the school has an enrollment of more than 150 children from Pre-school through Kindergarten.
GLM has been described as "Montessori with a buzz".
Diversity is very important to us at GLM and that emphasis shows in both it’s staff and student body.
Many GLM teachers have been with the school for more than twenty years.
GLM is a place where teachers, parents and children grow, a school where we can get to know everyone by name. At GLM, children grow and form lasting friendships, which continue on into other schools.
At GLM we have "Porous Walls" – a description from a parent. Children can get the time and attention they need to develop skills and mature. They can travel to visit an older class and work; they can return to a previous class and help mentor younger children.
We offer specialists who teach music and dance.
GLM children have successfully transferred into every grade level of both the public and private school systems and gone on to successful college careers.
Some staff attended Montessori schools as children.
