BILINGUALISM; BUILDING CHILDREN'S BRAINS The human brain is wired to learn language in early childhood. The earlier a child starts learning a second language, the greater their chances of achieving full fluency—and the greater the lifelong cognitive benefits. Immersion is by far the most effective way to learn a language. With more than 50 nationalities in our school community, not only do our children learn to understand and speak French, they also learn about the vibrant multicultural world around them.
PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY Our Preschool revolves around children being intrinsically curious, active learners. Our teachers encourage the development of the whole child by responding to their individual needs. Our program provides a safe environment for children to explore different types of relationships, to learn and discover the world through play, to wonder and investigate ideas and possibilities, to create and produce projects, to practice and rehearse rich and diverse situations by helping children develop their own identity and an awareness of the multicultural world around them. Inviting classrooms encourage children in their artwork, music-making, storytelling and imaginative play. Our highly skilled and dedicated faculty creates a stimulating environment where children’s innate language ability is gently nurtured, their emotional growth is encouraged, and where they are gradually and carefully prepared for a more structured academic setting.
TEACHERS All of our preschool and kindergarten teachers are fully credentialed by the French Ministry of Education or the State of California. All classrooms have full-time bilingual teacher’s assistants to give each child ample individual attention and gentle support.
PLACEMENT In the French educational system, “l’école maternelle” includes both preschool and kindergarten. Children are placed in the section that best corresponds to their developmental age; typically age three in PK, four in MK, and five in K. For Kindergarten, children must turn five by December 31 of the year enrolled.
